Default Striking a cutting?

I read in the "Removing Lateral" thread i started someone mentioned using the removed lateral as a cutting for striking.

Can this be done? Thus creating a clone i guess.

If so do you need to use a rooting solution to dip the cutting into before planting?
Any advice in this area?
Will it work for both Heirlooms and Hybrids?

I am guessing it will work, as i broke one of my tender seedlings off at the base and just planted it in another cell and it kept on growing.
If this is the case i will find a home for all my good sized removed laterals. From my understanding on reading about pruning, the lateral is just another stem, so i can how it would work.

Thanks
