Default FIRST MATER SANDWICH !

A while back I had posted about the unusually large blossom on one plant that I had managed to forget to label shortly after my strokes. You were all right in that it was merely a fusion of two flowers. The resulting tomato had really only grown together in one small spot of about an inch, so it broke neatly into two nicely sized fruits. However, after a few weeks of monsoon rains, I was walking around the outside of the garden and discovered that it was already a deep red. Being lunchtime, I brought it back to the house. After slicing some of my homemade rye bread, covering one side with olive oil, freshly ground pepper, and a bit of sea salt, I made thick slices of just one of the sides and had plenty to cover the six inch slices of bread with overlapped tomato slices, then a bit of mayo on one side. Overall, the flavor was VERY acidic with an almost underlying hint of a good vinegar, but not too sweet or too deep a flavor. For a sandwich, the tomato flavor surely came through. All of the rest of the fruits on that plant, and in most of my garden, are still very green, but for today I throroughly enjoyed and celebrated that one as a pleasant gift for so many months of work! Iced tea and a good tomato sandwich on June 2...LIFE CAN BE VERY, VERY GOOD even in the little things.
