Default Saving Seed/Germination Test?

Hi all-

Last year, I saved some seed to practice my technique. I tried with Black Sea Man and Tiffen Mennonite that I got from a reputable farm that specializes in heirlooms.

I don't know if I should try growing them out, both because of space (I have tons of varieties I want to try this year) and because I didn't grow the tomatoes myself and so don't know if the plants were healthy, or what the risks would be for cross pollination or fruit mislabeling.

I'm wondering though, if it would be worth it to test germinate a few seeds to see if I was successful. This summer, I have some varieties that I would hope to be able to save and possibly share.

Have others done practice runs like this before saving for real?

Thanks!
