Things have changed. The water is not like it used to be, and I don't know of any large vegetable operations anymore. It's all corn, wheat and cattle, at least until the water runs out.

I've read that the water has ran out at Happy, TX, and farming and the cattle industry have practically ended there. That's 30 miles due east of here.

The sugar beet plant closed long ago.

But you can still grow a good tomato here.

I think the restaurant your thinking of was "Rhinegolds" in Umbarger. The owner retired long ago, and sold out.
