My "Brandywine From Croatia" Grow-out (pics)
I wanted to start a new Thread relevant only to my actual grow-out of this year's 7 "Brandywine from Croatia" plants purchased April 3 at the Santa Clara Master Gardener's Event.
While I purchased 7 plants labeled "Brandywine from Croatia", upon closer examination when I got them out of the "zoo" atmosphere of the Sale, I found 6 to be RL, while one was PL: Today, this Variety is the most massive and robust of any variety that I am growing: As these are in the back row in a very confined aisle space, I am not able to get a "front-on" photo to post. However, they are now over 78 inches tall as of today. Again, somewhat hard to discern from a different angle, but the PL version plant is in the foreground, and the two RL plants are immediately behind it (the ones over the top of the cage): I am still proceeding on the assumption that someone at potting time for the Sale stuck the wrong label in the PL plant. I am seeing about 5 times the fruitset on the PL plant as compared with the RL plant. Here is the PL: And now the RL: So anyway, it will be fun to watch this saga unfold over the next few months. If I can't identify the fruit from the PL plant as Brandywine Sudduth, or similar strain, I think I am going to just call it "Brandie-wine from Croatia" in honor of Brandie Benton, who was Playmate of the Month in the June 1989 issue (according to Al Bundy.....)
