It will not last, unless you are out on one of the coasts. From Weather
Underground, today, Friday, 2012-02-03:
Quote:
A strong winter storm will continue moving across the nation, bringing heavy snow to the Midwest and heavy rain to the Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys. The system will move from the Central Plains and into the Midwest, pushing a cold front over the Mississippi River Valley and into the Tennessee Valley. Flow around this system continues pushing warm and moist air northward from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered and thunderstorms to develop from the Gulf coast through the Tennessee Valley. Some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds, large hail, and periods of heavy downpours. Meanwhile the northern side of this system will continue pulling cool air in from the North. This will kick up more snow showers from Nebraska and Kansas, through Iowa and Illinois. Snowfall accumulations will range from 3 to 6 inches in these areas, with winds from 25 to 35 mph. Blizzard advisories have been issued for these areas, as heavy snowfall and strong winds will produce near white-outs and dangerous road conditions. Please take caution while traveling through the Central US.

Elsewhere, high pressure allows for dry and quiet weather to persist over the West Coast. Strong offshore flow creates dry and breezy conditions which will increase fire danger over parts of the Southwest and southern California. Meanwhile in the East, high pressure also remains the dominant weather feature for the Northeast. This brings another sunny day with mild temperatures.
