Default squash surprise

i have had pitiful squash harvests for about 4 years and so i was skeptical as i planted this year. i had almost no female blossoms during this time period and the squash bugs were terrible, so you can understand the skepticism. i figured i would be covered up with the bugs due to the mild winter however, i have had almost no pests andi have picked more squash in 10 days than in the previous two years combined. whats up with that? jon
