Default This little beetle killed my squash vine

One of my squash vines wilted and died today. Early prolific straight neck. The squash vine started showing signs of wilt at about 10:30 this morning and was dead and shriveled by 6 PM.

I thought I'd find a Squash borer inside the vine, but that wasn't the case.

Two of these little beetles had eaten into the vine just below the soil line. they had only eaten into the outside of the stem, but where they had eaten was rotted. They must be a vector for a disease.

Any idea what they are?
