Brandywine Sudduth vs. Marianna's Peace Head to head
Results are in!!!! Multiple taste tests
I had several taste tests among family friends and coworkers. (over 30 people in all) I asked people to rank them 1 through 4. Brandywine sudduth vs. MP vs. Momotaro vs. Stump of the world. Momotaro is the best yielding tomato I ever grew. However-- it just doesn't compare in taste to the brandywine or marianna's peace. Stump of the world- more acid less sweet. In all my taste tests, momo and Stump were always on the bottom of the list. All 3's and 4's. Brandywine: Had the most #1's- Marianna: Most #2's Corresponds well to my taste buds too. Brandywine beats Marianna in taste. I love Marianna. It was my best tomato last year and until I got a ripe brandywine, it was my best tomato this year. But I have to say the brandywine is better. Not by a lot, but better. Sweeter with just the right balance of acid. Incredible. I still have some of the Parsimmons that I have not tried yet. I am not expecting much on that one. But it looks like I am one of the lucky souls that can grow both with good yields. (Brandywine yield was slightly better than Marianna yield). The one negative about brandywine- it took forever to ripen. I did not get a ripe tomato until last week. Something I will have to work on to improve for next year. Anyway, I don't know how this compares to other reports, But I will say I am converted. Not enough difference in taste between these tomatoes to grow more than one. Until I find a new love, I will always find a place in my garden for Brandywine sudduth. Looks like my marrianna will have to be relegated to a back up tomato, and only if I have room in the garden!
