Hi, Carolyn

I sent the Brandywine/NAR F4 seeds to Jeff (he had asked for Brandnar in the
wanted section). I had been given F3 &F4 seeds by Bigdaddyj who got them from Bill Jeffers a few years ago. J (who lives 5 minutes away in DE) grew them once or twice, then lost interest in them because of disease issues. I grew out several of those F3 seeds. I'm growing my F4, both potato leaf and regular leaf, again this year as well as Dixiewine which originally came from Tom/NJ and had been known as NARX. Last year, all of the rl and pl plants
produced large, well-shaped red fruits that I thought had pretty good taste.
I didn't really see any difference in the fruits from these 9 plants and saved
seeds from 4 of the plants. It'll be interesting to see if they're identical to
the fruits from the 2 Dixiewine plants I'm growing.

My B/NAR plants are doing very well (I tend to have very few disease issues); a few well-formed early fruits; a few mal-formed fruits that may have formed during a period of cool nights. It's still early but I think that my plants, in general, don't seem as productive as last year. A couple of exceptions are the Indian Stripe/possibly Daniels that I got from you-plants seem to have produced an abundant quantity of early fruits. The lower, earliest are well-shaped; the later fruits seem to have several mal-formed among them.
Hearts-- Fish Lake Oxheart, Hays tomato, Granny's Heart seem more productive than my beefsteak varieties at this point. I'm hoping they're
just a bit late late!

Darlene side note-I'm using Daconil this year (didn't last year) because of
frequent rains/late blight concerns (reported in Lancaster, Pa)
