Spots on tomato: Insect damage or Bacterial Canker?
Please help identify these spots. One suggestion has been insect damage from a Stink Bug or something else with a tubular sucking mouthpiece. However, searching online the spots seem to look like the typical symptoms of Bacterial Canker. It is not something I have seen before.
The plant was an Indigo Rose grown from commercial seed, and seemed to be the only variety out of 20 or so to have this issue. The affected fruits were near the top of the plant about six feet off the ground and the lower down earlier fruit were not affected. There didn't seem to be any problems when the plant was young, and I did not notice any particular foliage issues before I disposed of the plant. The plant was in a bed affected by Late Blight so it had to go anyway, eventually. spots2.jpg spots3.jpg |
