Default Fused multipule stems

Hi friends,
So, i noticed that in both my Black Krim and my San Marzano plants that several of the ' sucker ' stems fused to the main stem. I found this to be no problem to the plant but was wondering if it may be caused by the plants being in a windy area.
I would like to know if anyone has seen this happen in the past and if anyone has an idea of what might cause it.
