I use a plastic cover on my containers to help the plants grow faster and protect them from weather and bugs. I just replanted my tomatillos on my balcony. There are two seedlings started in my hydroponics. Then there are seeds that I just scattered in there. The plastic cover around a 3 foot cage doesn't really gets so hot inside to kill the plants on a sunny day. If it does, you can cut slits on it. I suppose on a cold night you can put a light bulb as a heater.
