The Grapes of Wrath
I have tried to grow Sungold the past few years. Because of the lack of space and sunlight, the end result has been pathetic.
This year I decided to try out smaller Green Grape. I started a few seedlings and planted them in a sunnier spot. I also started a few Sungold seedlings for a friend since I did not want them anymore. My Green Grapes are growing wild and setting lots of fruit. Unfortunately they really tasted lousy. Just when I was about to pull all the Green Grapes out to make room for other things, I discovered why the Green Grapes tasted so dreadful! Hiding under a lot of leaves was a nice bunch of golden orange fruits. They tasted sweet and delicious! Apparently the labeling of the seedlings got mixed up, what I thought were Green Grapes were in fact Sungolds, and I had been trying to eat green Sungolds. I better call my friend and tell him not to wait until his “Sungolds” turn color. dcarch
