Default Using treated lumber is it safe?

I'm growing pole beans for the first time this season and my son in law just finished a new deck and has strips of treated wood 2" x 2" by about 8 foot long.I was thinking about using those as a TP using 3 strips in a tripod for them to grow on.Would it be safe to use in the garden or should I paint over them to seal them?Sorry if this has been asked before.
