Default Need a new water delivery method this summer.....I'm thinking of this....

So here is a shot of my garden last year.....

I'm thinking of making a watering system for it. My idea was to use 1/2" or 1" PVC to create a grid of sorts buried as deep as I can. I figured I'd either create different branches and control water flow from hose to each with ball valves, or just have one continuous length of pipe cover the whole garden. I could drill varying size hole to try and even out distribution of water. Or I could have all the holes the same size and not try and push the water out of the pipe just let it drain out slow like. Thoughts?

I have a lot of 4" black gutter pipe but that would be more difficult to bury and would definitely be a fill it up with water and then it drains out system...

On another note I have a sump pump in the basement. There is always water in the bottom of the sump slightly below the float. I'm thinking about sticking a smaller pump in there to see how much water there is and use it on the garden this summer......
