Isn't that a yellow fleshed Giant Belgium?

First time I saw Goldie was in a Gleckler catalog from the mid 1980s. They made claims of it being a 150 plus year old variety, but it is hard to confirm that. Large deep yellow/pale orange type tomatoes such as Goldie didn't show up in commercial US seed catalogs until the late 1800s (varieties like Golden Ponderosa).
I grew it once, found it to be a mild flavored large fruited pale orange beefsteak type.

Travis,
Thanks for your response. I had also heard that it was a yellow version of the Giant Belgium. Was looking for anyone who had experience with this tomato, as far as growing it, taste, etc. nctomatoman, I had also heard the 150 yo story and can appreciate how hard it is to substantiate that. I thank you for your input and value your opinion greatly. Happy matering, Paul |

No prob Paul! I wish I had a digital camera way back when. I grew Goldie once, in PA - it yielded very well. I found the flavor similar to what I've found with many other yellow and orange and bicolored tomatoes - just too bland/sweet for me...actually, great for cheeseburgers or grilled cheese use, but for a tomato mozzarella salad, I like more zing. But taste is very personal....and each tomato likely hits each person's taste buds differently!

This may be "off-topic", but as a newcomer and new tomato grower, I am really impressed by this site!! I'm having a blast playing in the dirt and getting to eat some good healthy maters.
Taste is truly individual and very subjective. We're all different and I'm thankful for that. Again, I'm having a blast. Paul |
