Green giant is very flavorful and, well, big. I've grown snow white & white queen -I usually feed these to "seasonal" friends and the turtles that roam the garden. Maybe I'll try the pl white.

I do like green giant but am growing cherokee green also this year because of all the positive feedback from last year.

Well heck, it wont let me fix my post above.... as I was saying....

Thanks for all the imput and those that offered me seeds. I've made my decisions for this year at least. I'll be growing "greg's" green if his offer for seeds is still available, and potato leaf white. White queen is on standby for 2011.

Thank you all for your input on the "White" varieties! I enjoyed reading your comments and opinions on these.

Never grown a "White" before, but after doing some research late last year, ended up selecting White Queen, and as mentioned here, I think I've made ok choice... Look forward to trying one.

I like the White with Pink Stripes. I think it had good flavor.

I think I see many Green varieties I'd like to try. Anyone have extra seeds to trade? I tried Grub's and like that last summer.

gssgarden- I love the name 'Gregory's Green'....I hope it catches on, as I grow a "Family Plot" using tomatoes that share family member names ....and I am alway on the lookout for 'Gregory's' and 'Alex's'

On taste alone? Green Giant. Cherokee Green is a close second, but different flavor profile. Green Giant is usually the more productive of the two for me.

Other favorites for taste include Humph, Green Pineapple, Grub's Mystery Green, Spear's Tennessee Green. All of these are usually fairly productive here in my growing conditions, with GMG being the most productive and the earliest.

I am going to try Charlie's Green this year.

I like Cherokee Green and Green Giant, but last year I grew Evergreen and Green Moldovan and I was happy with them too... possibly earlier than the others and quite productive.


Great White is fairly mild, but is the largest variety I have ever grown (several 2 pounders). I mix it with what I think is Limmony to make a fantastic "white" spagetti sauce. The "Limmony" is a white fleshed yellow skinned variety that showed up as a stray seed for me but the tangy taste is so distinctive that I'm guessing Limmony is what I have.

Suze, Charlie's Green was one of the first green when ripes I ever grew b'c it was Charlie, my farmer friend who plowed my field for me, marked out the 250 ft long rows for me, had his men cultivate for me when the plants were small which was a big help, and laughed and laughed at my tomatoes b'c he only knew round reds.

Another one I grew way back when was Grandma Oliver and I don't see many folks growing that one either. I think by now I've grown close to 15 or so green when ripes and they still remain one of my favorite kinds of tomatoes along with the hearts.
