wish you all the best. i used peat pellets for the first couple of years i started from seed. even though people knock them, they worked great for me. i cant get them locally, so i started buying plastic seed tray. i fill each cell with seed starting mix, which has worked good for me too. good luck this year.

This is my first year using the peat pellets. Pictures Ami posted convinced me to try 'em. Now if Ol Mother Nature will just co-operate......

Congratulations!
I have everything ready to go, and am now kicking myself since I'm way behind for my area (it'll be okay though). I've grown herbs inside, but it's my first time with tomatoes. |

Wasn't planning to plant more, as I have limited room for them inside here. I figure to lose some, and they'll just go on my list to be planted next year.

Dennis,
Temps this last week and the few next days are mid-fifties to sixties, then lows are upper 30's to 40's. I FINALLY got everything planted and on the heating pad this afternoon, whew! I'd like to get one more, but am not sure I will. My Dad's helping me with making ET's, and I'm going to grow his tomatoes and gutahs for him. SO, let's see if I recall them all: Amish Paste, Brandywine Cherry, Carbon, Tigerella, Isis Candy, Juane Flamme, Cherokee Purple, Celebrity, Marianna's Peace, Sun Gold, Chadwick Cherry, Reisentraube, and my two free ones, Red Alert (a determinate from Totally Tomatoes, and Gigant Pelina, my free one from Tatianna's. I also have some small bell peppers, one chili pepper, and another sweet pepper mix. The end of the 72 tray was some Lettuce Leaf Basil. Now I have other veggies to start. Btw, Gutahas are Armenian cucumbers, a mix between muskmelon and cukes, also known as snakelong. I figure I'll buy the other peppers I want at nurseries since it's late to be starting them at this point. I learned the very hard way going nursery to nursery that all the wonderfully reviewed heirloom tomatoes aren't exactly easy to find! I eventually found someone selling a few I was interested in, but am pretty sure they 2 weren't what they were supposed to be, and my Eva Purple Ball was diseased. Thanks for asking! =D |
