It's interesting to me that the indians used corn & beans in companion planting, because there's also a town in the Gascony region of France called Tarbes where the original bean used to make cassoulet comes from. The French swear that the Haricot Tarbais (name of the bean) gets its unique flavor and characteristics because it is traditionally grown alongside corn.
