Default Bumps on Basil

I don't seem to be having much luck with basil anymore, last year aphids ate most of my plants, and now this year I'm finding little round bumps on my plants.

There are one to three bumps on the basil stem near the ground level (but enough that its not on the ground by a centimeter or more). There also appears to be a bit of browning around the bump, like the stem is splitting just slightly.

I'll try to get a picture of it that is actually in focus, but I just have your normal everyday run-of-the-mill digital camera and it isn't the best at super close ups.

Anyway, if you have any idea what it might be, please let me know. I'm worried its some sort of egg growth from a boring insect.

Here's the best picture I've taken. I sprayed my basil with a pest spray that will hopefully at least prevent anything else taking hold.
