Hi Matt,
I have grown PR a number of time (its a favourite!) and yes the plants do tend to be a bit spindly looking, skinny and lanky. But they can be very productive, and sooo tasty! How big are your plants? I have a few newly germinated in seedling pots right now Lena |

I'm growing Purple Russian this year for the first time. It is putting on several fruits already but I'll agree that the plant looks spindly...sparsly leaved & "wispy". I'm pretty sure it IS a healthy plant though and believe it is just the nature of the variety to look this way. Don't think anything is wrong. I've seen this in other plants---usually "heart-shaped" varieties.
Good harvest!!!!!!! LarryD

Spindly looking here too. Ive noticed that lots of heirloom plum tomatoes have spindly leaves.

Wispy indeed, little thin at first, but mid season - stems get very strong, and so far, my #1 sucker producing variety (sets plenty of fruit too)! I finally gave up last week, no longer going to clip them off, just can't keep up with it. Going to install 4 conduit poles and let it run...

My first time, and yes kinda spindly and wispy, here is my first ripe one still on the vine. I plucked it right after the picture.
