cherokee purple - different strains

Yesterday I had my first cp of the season. Because I love this tom, I always one - a chef jeff plant. This year I purchased 2 plants from my local greenhouse. Grown cp for a number of year. This particular cp was extra outstanding in every catagory - taste, texture, coloring. Are there different strains of cp - like the brandywines. I'm 99% sure it is a cp. (you know there is always a very slim chance of mistakes). Hopefully I will have several for the Midwest Tomato Fest. piegirl

No, I don't know of any strains of Cherokee Purple . Indian Stripe is a version of CP and can mimic it in some ways, but is not a strain of it as I see it, such as one might write Cherokee Purple (LeHoullier), which I did just for fun b'c it was Craig who was given the seeds for CP and named it.

But the taste and coloring of a variety can be different in different seasons due primarily to the weather.

last year i had the very best tasting cp tomatoes ever. this year they are almost as good but lack the salty taste they had last year. last year with all the clouds, rain, cool weather and despite infected by late blight my cp were the best ever - they had a salty taste. seeds for last and this year were from the same tgs packet! one year cp was so lousy i did not eat them but that was the only time i experienced that.
