need cabbage, broccoli plants
Years ago I used to get bare root plants from Piedmont plants out of Georgia. But I know they went out of business at least 5 years ago. I know there are other companies that sell plants but I never seem to be able to find them with a Google search.
I would like to get several hundred cabbage and broccoli if not more to fill in holes in my plant starting. If anyone knows of such a company, especially if you know of a web site, please post a link here if you can. Thanks, Carol |

Carol many years ago a company sold them through garden centers in our area bareroot wrapped in paper in bundles of 25 or more; but since I began starting my own plants from seed I haven't bought any for years. You might want to see if there is a farmers exchange or cooperative near you that carries them.
Those type of plants are so much easier to start from seed than tomatoes and peppers. I know it doesn't help now but if you have a way to grow them they are really easy to start from seed and they transplant great. |

Unfortunately around here it's mostly garden centers and they do plants rather than the bareroot stuff. We can get cabbage plants from a couple of the BIG kraut growers in Kenosha county, but not til much later in the season.
I do start most of my own cole plants and you are right they are easier than tomatoes, most of the time. We actually managed to get some planted this week in between rains in the sandiest ground we have. But I didn't have hardly any broccoli left to plant. We had some heater problems in the greenhouse last month, so I have some gaps in when I wanted plants and what kind of plants. I was just hoping to fill some of the gaps. There is/was a company called Dixie that I had had a catalog from many years ago, but they don't seem to have a web site that I can find. Too bad. Carol |

Carol,
Evans Plant Company in Georgia carries bare root broccoli and cabbage plants. Google their name and you'll can get to the website to order.

Yes, finally.
I think I used to have their catalog many years ago as that name is vaguely familiar. Thanks, Carol |

Barkeater,
They have several items I would like to get but I wonder -- Have you ordered from Evans lately ?? I ask because while looking for the web site I also found several reviews of Evans at Daves and they are generally BAD. The most recent review tho is from 09. I wonder if they have fixed their problems or if it's still chancy to order from them. Carol |

You only need a couple hundred of each which isn't all that much. Isn't it possible for you to also direct seed? Sure would be easier than trying to find places to send plants to you now as I see it.
