What I see is one fruit and it's beefsteak shaped, not a blunt heart at all from what I can see.

I had to chuckle a bit b'c just on that one page the following varieties were introduced by me:

Germaid Red
German Red Strawberry
Gianinni
Gogosha

And I can tell from some of the blurbs that the person who owns Heritage Harvest is an SSE member b'c some of the varieties, such as Gianinni, which is a great variety, are word for word from my SSE listing.

But again I see this and that variety being said to be rare, etc, when it isn't if you look at Tania's data base listing of seed sources.

Ah well, I suppose if I were in the seed business I'd MAYBE have to make what I list more appealing with judicious use of adjectives.

Now that I have picked a lot of the tomatoes off the plant and tasted them, I would rank this tomatoe in my top 5 for flavor this year. It really doesn't look like any of the photos Remy supplied except maybe a little like Big Zac; but I never heard it was a very good tasting tomato and this thing is wonderful. I also compared it to Red Barn which is fairly close to it in size and shape but it tastes different and has more fluting at the top with the color being a more orange tone than Red Barn which was very red.

I guess I'll keep calling it Germaid Red ? until I can find something it is more similar too. I have saved seed and plan on growing it again next year. In pounds of tomatoes per plant it is either my top producer or next best. All but one tomato picked off the plant were large and some very large. With the combination of hardiness, flavor, size, and productivity it has to be one of two or three of the best tomatoes I have ever grown.

b54red,
You got your seeds from the Buffalo~Niagara Party too? I didn't realize that! If you want seeds from me send me a PM and I'll send you some.
Well, I checked the list trying to figure what was on the table near Germaid Red since it was my grouping of tomatoes. It could be Red Penna. The photo doesn't show much ribbing on top, but the one upside down does have it. Here's an old photo on GW of one I grew.

But really, your pic makes me think of the Red Prudens Purple I grew. But I'm assuming your plants are regular leaf and not potato leaf.
I looked at the photos closely. To the left of Germaid Red was Remy Rouge(Cherry.) To the left of Remy Rouge was Aunt Ruby German Green and to the left of Aunt Ruby was Polish Linguisa. To the upper left above Remy Rouge was Juliet(grape.) Above Gemaid Red was Kosovo. To the right was Prudens Purple. To the right of Prudens Purple was Red Prudens Purple. To the right of Red Prudens Purple was Red Penna. I can't figure out what was above both Prudens and Red Penna, but I know that the way things are laid out it would be 3 more from me and not someone else. So there were no other red beefsteaks close by.
I don't know what the Red Prudens Purple really is, because I had seeds of my own and Pinetree seeds. It was PL and looked just like Prudens Purple except for color. I also though it was juicer than Prudens Purple. I remember at the time thinking if it was a cross from me the only thing it could be would be a cross of Stump of the World and Prudens Purple. I don't know if a PLxPL cross that makes a PL baby would then produce a RL one. I don't cross plants so I'm clueless. Of course if it was from Pinetree then who knows.

Remy I got my seed from greyghost and she said that the only tomato similar that she had was Red Barn. If you want I can send you some seed when they are ready if you want to try it. Maybe you could tell what it is because I sure can't.

No, no need to do that. I believe you that it is an excellent tomato though. Maybe it is Red Barn which I have seeds of. I'm going to put that on my need to grow list.

I don't believe it is Red Barn but I could certainly be wrong. I compared ripe fruits and the Red Barn is much redder when ripe and they don't tend to be quite as thick or globe shaped. The Germaid Red? also just has a rougher look to the skin and isn't quite as pretty a tomato to look at but the taste was better for me. The plants are very similar in that they are big and have heavy limbs with regular leaves but the fruits just seem so different. I will try to grow them out side by side next year in the same location and get a really good comparison.

Having introduced both Germaid Red, seeds from Don Podolia, as well as seeds from Joe Bratka who could not germinate them and I was able to, hence came Red Barn and the others from him and other than the fact that both are red I really don't see those two as being similar.

Sorry greyghost, just the way I see it.

So am I supposed to go searching for my older Germaid seeds? I mean Remy has what she says is Germaid Red but how is that going to help correct the commercial places that seem to have the wrong GR?

And am I supposed to start a thread in the General Discussion Forum about other varieties that have gone south, so to speak? At least if some folks say I can't find this or that per the description online or in the SSE Yearbooks b'c what I have doesn't match anything, then someone else might pop up and say, well, I've got it, as Remy did here with Germaid Red.

I'm really quite conflicted about doing this so would appreciate some feedback and if not here, then where, for feedback.
