I prefer KB or KBX (Both taste the same to me I prefer KBX for it's PL and no CRUD aspect) over AGG. Both are fine. Edge to KB, KBX on production.

In my gardens, KB and KBX have been nearly the same. Same color and texture and the same flavor. I have not been bothered by CRUD on either. AGG is a nice tomato, but I prefer the KBs. Yellow Brandy is not one I will grow again since there are so many yellow/gold/oranges that do better for me. Try them all, you may find your favorite is out there somewhere.

Thanks all, I'll order the KBX! I like potato leaf maters better, they just look so lush!
Thanks again! |

i grew bk 2 seasons, large healthy plants, beautiful colored fruits and huge too but ... well... remember that thread about mild tomatoes? never again.
now i've grown agg 3 or 4 seasons and it is one of my top favorites. some years it is very productive, some years not so much. some years it is very late, some years it's earlier. bk vs agg? no contest. ymmv.

We're growing Aunt Gertie's Gold this year for the first time. If I remember, I'll post my thoughts about it at the end of the season.
KBX is on my want list for next year too. Thanks, Irv |

Sorry to hijack this thread, but how does Orange Minsk compare to AGG and KB?

While I haven't grown all three at the same time, I no longer have the space to do that, and since I like both AGG and KBX very much and since I think very highly of the taste and production of Orange Minsk, which, being new not that many people have grown it to date, I'm going to say that all three are very worthy and I'd be hard put to really choose one over the other. Above I suggested that AGG be grown one year and KB or KBX the next year if space was limited and I'd add Orange Minsk to the must grow list as well. Andrey really lucked out when he found the variety he named Orange Minsk at the Minsk, Belarus farmers market. And those of us who have grown it have enjoyed that lucky find. http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Orange_Minsk Quite a few seed sources already and I think that TGS will soon be listing it and I sent it to Glenn at Sandhill as well but I know he's way behind on growing out all the ones I've sent him for trial. There are a few places where I know the owners well that I send the best of what I've grown to them for trial and if a variety works for them then they can list it. I've been offering it in my free seed offer here for a couple of years and while I haven't checked how many seeds I have left I probably will do so again, but I do encourage folks to buy tomato seeds, in general, from those folks whose only business is selling primarily tomato seeds for they are the ones who also help with seed preservation by keeping varieties out there in the public domain. Yes, I fully admit that I'm pretty much anti-seed trading with few exceptions and would much prefer to see folks buy at least half their varieties.

I really liked Aunt Gerties the first year I grew it - very, very tangy and rich flavor. The next year was very cold in June into July and all the AGG were extremely catfaced. It is back this year to be planted in my warmer Zone 4 garden for another try. I am also growing Orange Minsk and hope for good results! I grew Kellogg's Breakfast one year but it wasn't.

Kellogg's Breakfast I grew a few years back. Fabulous production but ho hum on the taste. Jerry had KBX at the CHOPTAG tasting and I had KB. IMO, there was no comparison between the two. KBX won hands down on taste.
KBX I grew the next year. Ho Hum on the production, but fabulous on the taste. Had the pleasure of trying AGG at CHOPTAG year before last. LOVED it, but Earl grew the one I tasted. It will go in my garden to try this year (thanks Jerry) but I don't know if it will taste as good as Earl's or not. Earl grows THE best tomatoes in the whole wide world and I can never quite get mine to taste as good as his. So we'll see....

Thanks Carolyn. I'm growing Orange Minsk this year, so that's why I asked. I grew it last year, but hail prevented me from tasting it. I've grown AGG in the past, and that is an outstanding variety based on taste IMO.

I have mixed feelings about Aunt Gertie's Gold so far. Our Aunt Gertie's Gold plant has produced a total of one tomato. Its taste was wonderful, rivaling Brandywine for me, but the flesh was leathery. It was almost like eating a piece of beef jerky! We probably won't be growing it again.
Thanks Irv |

Ok, I have after tasting Orange Minsk have decided it is better for me than AGG, Kellogg's Breakfast, or KBX. It had a wonderful flavor and I have lots of tomatoes so I'm very happy with it.

Okay, I've decided on KBX and sent off my order to Sand Hill yesterday. This has been a horrible tomato year for me. Drizzly, overcast mornings well into July and most of my plants got that nasty yellowing-at-the-bottom all the way up gunk. The only plant that's producing is Aunt Ginny's Purple. My family is fighting over the tiny harvest.
Next year, next year, next year............will be Aunt Ginny's Purple Druzba (can't believe I didn't get one tomato this year) Neves Azorean Red (ditto) Red Brandwine Box Car Willie Kosovo KBX Cherokee Green Can't wait till February and seed sowing time! |
