Large Barred Boar
Looking forward to this one when it ripens up - here is an unripe fruit -
Supposedly looks like a striped version of Cherokee Purple. Getting pretty big, Brad!

Very nice looking tomato, Lee! Looks like the green/olive-ish striping has a bit of a metallic sheen to it.
As a diehard CP lover, I'll be very interested in hearing how it tastes/compares to CP. I have seeds for Black and Brown Boar (SSE request), just haven't grown them out yet. Hmmm, wonder how these two vary...Brad? |

The picture Lee took looks just like the one I picked today and ate for dinner. First one of the season, it was very meaty and had great flavor IMO.
Black and Brown Boar- Looks like a Black Zebra in color and stripes, friuts can be round or have some ribbing from same plant. |

Picked the first Large Barred Boar today - looks just like Lee's. Also first of the Beauty Kings. Both are beautiful, though the Beauty King has that brown streaking thing that Vintage Wine always has. Haven't tasted yet - photos first. Also picked 2 very pretty and large Green Giants (PL) that will need to ripen for a few days before eating.
Dammies - life is good! (Even at 107 degrees!) Robbins |

I brought the LBB into work yesterday to show everyone
and we had an impromptu taste testing. The interior was a single color similar to typical blacks such as Cherokee Purple or Carbon. It leans more to the side of solid/meaty in consistency, but was very juicy for a variety of this consistency. The taste was more towards the tart side of the spectrum. Very good IMO. It doesn't have the sweet undertones that exist in a Cherokee Purple, but I would rank it in the 7.5/8 range out of 10. Very good indeed! The comments from the other tasters ranged from: "Yep, that's a tomato!" to "mmmm, juicy." Of course the best comments came from the 9 and 7 year old boys that tried the tomato. "More, please!" Lee |

Well, it sure is pretty. Looks like the color of Cherokee chocolate with distinct green splotches and stripes. The interior is structured more like Black Krim or Black from Tula. Flavor - well, similar to Black Krim to my taste - on the tart side, not all that sweet - I would rank it a 6.5 out of 10 (and it was pretty much peak ripeness). Certainly good enough, and unique in appearance.

Finally ate the Large Barred Boars, Beauty King and Green Giants. Both the LBB and BK's were on the tart side with lots of juice. Absolutly beautiful and good BLT material! The GG's were too mild for my taste with tons of juice - maybe I let them get too ripe. All were good, but not the elusive 10............. The search continues!

Here is a pic of my Large Barred Boar.
I had a lot of fun growing this one. I liked the taste but found that the fruit tended to rot if left on the vine to fully ripen. If you pick it early and let it ripen on the counter it does much better. Thanks for the seeds Brad. Tim
