very gratifying

This is my first year gardening. My little plot contains sweet and hot peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, cukes, canataloupe and of course tomatoes. Up till now I've been been quite content with taking care of my plants and watching them grow. But I've gotta tell you tonight I made some fajitas in the crockpot for my wife and four kids ( two sets of twins, I married into one set) and was able to use from my garden habaneros, sweet peppers, and tomatoes, onions from my neighbors garden and beef from my buddies farm that have no growth hormones or antibiotics. Oh and the salad was lettuce from the neighbors, cauliflower, broccoli and cukes from my own. In 20 years of cooking I have never prepared a healthier, fresher meal than this. Very gratifying, I'm hooked. Now maybe my wife will quit calling me a freak/nerd for all the time I spent researching before I planted and amended my soil, and all the time I spend weeding and tending the garden.

Congrats on what sounds like a bonza feast for afar. No wonder you're feeling fabulous after the vitamin and flavour hit. I think homegrown is the way of the future. Never grown onions but I have a great spread of seeds

There is absolutely nothing more satisfying (IMO) to put some hard work into a garden and reap the rewards of it for you and your family. Good job! Nothing tastes better than vegetables you've just went out and picked moments before cooking supper. Really, great job and glad that you feel great about it too.

Congratulations on the great harvest from your first garden!

I felt exactly that same gratification when I cooked my first garden meal. Heck - I still do! For some reason, vegetables seem so much more interesting if I've grown them myself.

I was the kid who adamantly refused to eat peas. Blech mom...don't make me eat those! The first year I had a garden though, that changed. The garden itself was strictly an experiment and further, the peas were only planted because I thought they'd be a healthy choice to feed the family ( while I quietly munched something else entirely, of course. :wink: )Well wouldn't you know...I scrunched up my face and tried the very first pod I harvested just to see if they'd be edible. They were fabulous! I was officially a convert. There's just something really exciting about literally eating the fruits of your labor.

Gives you a real sense of self reliance in my opinion.

Now you need to start brewing your own beer and you’ll be set! 8)
