Paul Robeson

I'm not growing Carbon but am growing Black from Tula, Cherokee Purple, and Paul Robeson. I tasted all three side by side the other night. I loved them all but think I like PR best followed by BFT and then CP. CP is the least productive for me out of the 3.

Mine has a very low yield as well -
But then again, so does anything

My CP is in a 5 gallon bucket ~

While I do a fair amount of container growing (not by choice at the current time), I don't like growing tomato plants in 5 gallon containers, especially indets.

I *might* put a compact indet like Kimberly or Stupice in a 7 gal pot, or cherry types in a 10 gal. About all I use 5 gal containers for is dwarfs and peppers. I usually consider 12-15 gal to be a minimum for indets, and may even go larger depending on variety.

But I digress, back to your darks comparision question:

I want to try Carbon next year. Is anyone growing Carbon, Black from Tula and Paul Robeson this year that could compare their thoughts on the 3?

I grew all three this year, and it wasn't the first time I've grown those varieties either. They are all favorites of mine.

Carbon, in my opinion, is likely a selection someone made from CP. Similar flavor, is sometimes a bit darker and a bit later. Same plant habit too.



Black from Tula -- I love it. Great BLT tomato.



Paul Robeson -- I'm starting to think that there are two different Paul Robesons out there, based on pics I've seen, threads here and at GW. I *love* the one I am growing. It is a yellow skinned dark, med-large beefsteaks.



My two best tasting darks this year were Paul Robeson and Gary O'Sena. But the BFT, Purple Russian, Carbon, CP/CC, Brad's Black Heart, and others were great too.
