Anyone using capillary matting?
If you are, did you make your own system and are you satisfied with the results? Never used it but it does look like it is a good way to water seedlings correctly.

I use one of the systems from Gardeners Supply. It does make it easy in that watering is virtually unneeded until germination and you remove the "greenhouse" lid. However, I did seem to have a lot of algae form on the top of the Miracle Gro seed starting mix, presumably because it was constantly moist. Another issue I had only with my sweet pea currant variety was edema. Although removing them and keeping them in a larger pot didn't help, so maybe it's just a difficult variety...not sure. But anyway, that's my experience with them.
Oh another thing is that the roots will grow through the mat. Sent from my MB520 using Tapatalk |
