Default chipper/mulcher

has anyone used any of the models under $300. could these lesser expensive ones handle wood?

I've had three or four over the years, always buying them second hand. Most were good for grinding dry leaves. I've had one that could chip wood up to 2" in diameter. The problem was that you had to hand feed the limb so it took quite a while. It wouldn't take one with side branches so you had to clip off any that were on the limb.
I had a Snapper grinder that was good for leaves and pine bark but it couldn't chip wood.
