TPS TRANSPLANT
From time to time, I get a chance to stop what I am doing and take a photo of the progress of my potato breeding. Below is a picture of a TPS seedling of HEDGEROSE, one of the TPS (true potato seed) lines that WAS on my website for folks to try. I sent out quite a few samples of it to folks all over and am hoping to hear back from them. This photo was taken with my cell phone and sent to my email. I used IMGUR to get a forum quality link.
The plant is a bit larger than i usually finish out to the field. The furrow was augmented with lots of goodies...kelp, alfalfa, bone, blood, dolomite, feather, pelleted organic chicken manure, cottonseed, compost, etc. If you can see in the photo...there are three plants in the cluster transplant. I like to think that i can grow some decent TPS seedlings. The weather here still has not approached anything like summer yet...lows around 53...highs around 67. This was from seed processed during the late summer of 2005. The mother plant is no longer extant. One of the grandparents is ROSE GOLD. I noted that the other siblings of this population are round reds and most should have yellow flesh and maybe even a chance for a red ring in the flesh. There seems to be a lot of vigor in this TPS and for that reason I will be listing a sibling of HEDGEROSE for next year. |
