I found a 1947, 100th anniversary, edition of a Peter Henderson & Co. seed catalog yesterday. When I did a search on google for Beefheart this thread popped up.
As you can see there was a variety named ‘Beefheart’ at one time but I doubt this is the tomato folks are talking about. The picture shows a bit of heart shape but the narrative does not mention shape.
