Spots on tomato: Insect damage or Bacterial Canker?
Please help identify these spots. One suggestion has been insect damage from a Stink Bug or something else with a tubular sucking mouthpiece. However, searching online the spots seem to look like the typical symptoms of Bacterial Canker. It is not something I have seen before.
The plant was an Indigo Rose grown from commercial seed, and seemed to be the only variety out of 20 or so to have this issue. The affected fruits were near the top of the plant about six feet off the ground and the lower down earlier fruit were not affected. There didn't seem to be any problems when the plant was young, and I did not notice any particular foliage issues before I disposed of the plant. The plant was in a bed affected by Late Blight so it had to go anyway, eventually. spots2.jpg spots3.jpg |

We already decided it was Canker on another site.
Again sorry to hear you lost your plants Maf. Luckily I have had no disease this year that I know of. Kurt has me wondering about my Big Cheef (BER or Antracnose) But I have been down that road before. Sorry |

Thanks Clara, the plant was grown at my mother's garden across town and she says this tomato plant received more interest from gardening visitors than any other.
Thanks Gixx, the suspected ID was from looking at disease pictures on the internet, just fishing around for reassurance on the accuracy of the ID. |

maf, the same with my blue ones! People here can't believe that there are blue tomatoes, okay eggplant-blue ones. I hope to get some more blue varieties next year. clara

I feel ya even if I know it is something I always ask around. A second opinon never hurts. So many diseases are so similar too. I am starting to be able to recognise them but some are hard to diagnose. Good luck Maf. |
