Growing Tips
Been searching for eggplants tips, since mine are almost ready to transplant.
Found this: 3. Looking After The Eggplant: Remove the growing points of the plants once they have reached a height of 12 inches. When five (5) fruits have formed, remove the lateral shoots. Mist the plants regularly to aid in fruit setting. Water the plants regularly and add a potassium rich fertilizer with each watering when the eggplant fruits begin to swell. Can I suppose this is just like the tomato pruning thing, as in, I don't prune? Thanks, Grub. |

Grub-I have never pruned eggplant, actually have never heard of it. I use the same fert that I use for tomatoes. They do fine, in fact we have had so many eggplant this summer, I have been giving them away. I have 5 plants.

I have just 3 eggplants in my greenhouse and I also treat them as I do my tomatoes: no pruning, same fert (1/2 strength MG every 2 weeks) and water, etc. We get enough fruits for a meal or 2 each week.
To pollinate I just flick the blossoms when it is dry in there and as I see them.

Thanks for your feedback.
So would this mean that my 19 eggplants are going to be overkill? Lol. Looks like Brinjal Pickle till the cows come home. I do look forward to keeping this thread alive in coming months, though . Thai Pea Green has just come up after six weeks, so make that 21 eggplants. |

21 plants?! Sheesh, that seems like a lot, but variety is the spice of life, eh?
Everyone I know thinks I'm nuts for growing 40 tomato plants for a family of 3, but I....... geez, I guess it does sound kind of nuts.....
