You have poppies already???? I haven't seen any down here yet.

No poppies yet? Ours started about the middle of last month. But come to think about it, I haven't seen any yet in the hills, plenty of lupine though, and the ceanothus are really looking good this year.

Any good sources for fig bare root or cuttings?

Ive been happy with TreesOfAntiquity.com, though they are sold out now of just about everything. I've never tried my hand at doing cuttings, so I don't know the time of year or techniques.

I've found growing garlic very easy, initially I ordered online for the variety I wanted, then just save a portion to grow the following year.

Thank you! Is fall/winter the time to do cuttings for figs?

Dak, I only know what a gentlemen from Louisiana, who starts a lot of figs from cuttings to me. He says to take your cutting from the tree when it is dormant, wrap each cutting in a damp paper towel, place each cutting in a plastic zip lock and and place that in your refrigerator until spring and then plant in a gallon pot with good potting soil. Keep soil moist but not wet. You should see leaves and new growth in 3 to 4 weeks. He said this is the advice he gives people when they ask, but sometimes you can just take a cutting in the spring when your fig tree starts to bud out and stick it in the ground and keep watered and it will grow into a tree.
