The high flavor and high sugar content of this variety cause it to have a very short shelf life....

I've had them last a week from blush to ripe inside.

Ted, I grew Don's Double Delight from Carolyn's '13 seed offer.
Mine look just like the photos. The red interior is always a surprise
when cut open. The taste is surprisingly good-I think I expected it
to be very mild or bland, especially after the copious rain we had
this year. I'd be happy to send you seeds if you'd like to try it; my
only concern is that it got soft very quickly here (to the delight of my neighbor's chickens!). I'm suspecting that because of the vivid stripes,
my color ripeness calibration is off and I'm letting them fully ripen on the vine
a little too much. Darlene

I had a sleeper in the garden this year. Wheatly's Frost Resistant turned out to be a delicious pink grape tomato. It is just slightly less sweet than I would prefer, but otherwise has been exceptionally productive and tasty.

I had a surprise in my garden this year also. I had one that was supposed to be Virginia Sweets but turned out to be something else. I have no idea what it is but it is a sweet tomato with a full flavor and enough tartness to make it one of the tops this year in flavor. I think it must be some kind of cross or aberration of VS because of the sweetness. Unlike most of the sweet tomatoes I have grown this one stayed firm and kept well on the counter. I am saving seed hoping to duplicate it next year. The plant produced more very large beautiful tomatoes than any other plant in the garden this year. It also had a very high tolerance for leaf diseases especially the spot and speck diseases that have been so bad this year. Despite all the rain I haven't had a single tomato on this plant split. It is one of the few plants still producing from my March planting that has healthy foliage low on the plant.
I sure hope the seeds will be true next year because I plant on setting out at least a half dozen of this one.
