Blondkopfchen, my new favourite cherry

I attended a tomato tasting event this morning.

There were 32 different varieties, very few of which did I recognize from discussion on this forum. The ones that I tasted couldn't hold a candle to my Black Krim, Cherokee Purple or Rose de Berne, but Blondkopfchen (the little blonde girl) will definitely be growing in my garden next year!

Neat. Thanks for the recommendation. Looking it up on google images, it looks a lot like Chang Li, which I got from Tormato's seed swap and is my new favorite yellow cherry. It is Chinese and supposed to be a yellow pear, but all my fruit were football-shaped. It grew like a weed and produced well with no care at all.

Linda, I grew Blondkopfchen last year and it came up as a volunteer in my garden this year. It produces clusters with 40-50 blooms, not all end up to be pollinated. I liked the taste too, just the skin was to thick. The biggest problem for me was that it sets fruits and almost right away becomes ill. Fruits ripen on dying plant. Not resistant to diseases at all. Maybe in your area it will do better.

To Cole Robbie. That's interesting that it is similar to Chang Li. You had mentioned that one before and I thought it sounded very good! One of the people who ran the tomato tasting event said that it was early too :-)

To Efisakov. I didn't think that the skin was thick, maybe it depends on the year. Such a pity that yours died.

Amazingly, I did a search on Blondkopfchen here on the forum and nothing came up! I must be doing something wrong as I can't believe that it hasn't been discussed before!

I have not been too impressed by Blond. or by Riesen. this year. Mine look similar with the notable color exception.
Sun gold and Black Cherry are more pleasing to my taste buds but do crack easily..
All are grown in 25 gal Smart Pots with potting mix and compost manure stirred in and Texas Tomato Food as fertilizer.

I have been enjoying Black Cherry and Reisentraube this year. I usually find BC blah and R. tart, but we must be having a good year because I really changed my opinion on both, and I've grown them for a few years now! We just had two days of rain and BC is cracking a lot - much to the delight of the pooches, as they get to enjoy the cracked ones.
