Thanks for the reply. Since part of my farming experience, many years ago, was castration of calves, I'm interested in the last variety you mentioned and will be looking for results.

Giant tomatoes
Yes, The Big Zac is surprisingly tasty. Kinda loosing by eyesight, so trying for a big tomato this year. Will try the comment from someone that just letting two tomatoes to develop and pruning all suckers will develop big tomatoes. Stands to reason that it could happen; we'll see.

Giant tomatoes
The Mortgage Lifter was started by a man in Southern West Virginia, during the depression. He was able to keep his house by selling the tomato he developed. Just some history; hopefully not too boring.

It was the Estler family who first developed it about 10 years earlier and there's documentaion to prove that. I think most of the history is here: http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Mortgage_Lifter Read that first page and then click on the Estler one at the bottom of that page to see that the Estlers developed it before Charlie Byles did and there was documentation to prove that they were first. I much preferred Mortgage Lifter ( Estler) when I grew a couple of the Mortage Lifters years ago. Tania lists seven Mortage Lifters at her site if you do an initial search. Most were named by the person growing them and most are about the same for folks who have grown many of them with just two that are different, the Estler one being one of them. Hope that helps, Carolyn

Thanks for the true story about the Mortgage Lifter; shows you how false stories spread, even some of the seed companies tell the false one. Hope it's true that the Hillbilly tomato started in our great State.
