Is Greensand only available for pickup regionally?
I'm going to test out the soil block method soon and several of the recipes show to use greensand in the mix. I can't find any around here other than having to order off of the internet and pay huge shipping costs.
Is this something that is regional and only typically used in certain locations? |

I've never had any trouble finding it in bags at local nursery's and a feed store here in town.

I have never had any trouble finding it at a nursery. If you go to Espoma's website you can find which store in your area has their brand.
I agree with James. When I first started soil blocking I went through all the steps to make my own mix. By the time I got everything I needed it was expensive. I have used Promix and Fafards 3B but got tired of sifting. I switched to Fafards germinating mix. it is super fine, needs no sifting and has a mild fertilizer. My blocks come out great and the plants do just as well if not better than when I did all the extra work. |

I asked one of the local nurseries if he could get greensand and he looked in his order book and called his supplier and had it in his next shipment and he sold it for less than I could purchase it on the internet without any shipping charges.

I finally found some locally.. well across town. Around $8 for 5lb and $18 for 25lb. Next time I am over that way, I'll stop and pick some up. |
