Bad, Bad Weather

We had another inch of rain yesterday morning then it cleared up til around 4 in the afternoon and then wham. We got hit by fierce tornado like winds and driving rain for a short while. We lost power and as soon as the rain let up I went outside to see what damage had been done. We were very lucky only losing one 35 year old pear tree and limbs off just about everything in the yard. Some of our neighbors weren't so lucky. The elderly woman on the corner had a huge pine tree fall on her house crushing about a third of her house. The man across the street from her had 3 pines fall on his house but I couldn't tell how much damage was done. Luckily none of my immediate neighbors were hurt but obviously some people in town were injured because we heard ambulances going to a nearby hospital for hours. Our power came back on a few minutes ago but not our cable and internet so I am slowly tapping this out on my phone. I am hoping that the power lines and at least a few of the trees blocking the streets will be removed soon. I would like to get out and look around and see how much damage was done.

Of course the garden is a mess. I don't know how strong the winds got but I'm fairly certain they were hurricane force to do the damage they did. I hope no one was killed. Hopefully some of the local radio and tv stations will be up and running and I can find out more info.

I'm headed out now to start cleaning up a bit before it gets too hot.

Bill, I am so sorry, but thankful you and your family did not suffer any injuries, and hopefully all of your neighbors as well. My thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone that are affected by this terrible storm. Hopefully there were no serious injuries or fatalities. Be careful when cleaning up and stay safe my friend.

Sorry to hear y'all were hit so hard. I hope your garden come through all right. So far this year we have. Missed the really heavy weather. We usually miss the rain when that happens, which we desperately need in our neck of the woods. Today there is a chance of severe weather. I hope we get rain, but no hail or bad winds. I have had two new roofs put on in the last four years due to hail. Last years storm tore up some of my plants and destroyed several fruit. I hope you and your neighbors dig out ok and don't have anymore severe weather this year.

Ps keep an eye out for snake and fire ants as you clean up. I am sure you know that, but those are the ones that always seem to sneak up on you.

We had terrible winds and rain here too. I lost power for about 2 hours. My tomato plants have some damage but I think they will survive. All of the lettuces don't look like they will survive. We are suppose to be in for the same this afternoon and lots of rain predicted for the week. This is the same thing that happened last spring and the tomato production was pitiful. The fall season was great for tomatoes so I am trying to think about that as something to look forward to.

Sorry to hear that Bill! We had some crazy wind last night and rain on/off all night (which is a blessing actually). BUT- you always wonder how much is too much for the garden. We also have 100 in site on Thurs... Hoping all my maters don't split with such an influx....

I woke up this morning. Turned on the weather, and they're calling for severe weather this afternoon/evening. We had been in a drought since 2007. It was 90F yesterday and finally dry the whole day. Severe storms later today, and low of 44F Tuesday morning. I'm 50 and have seen weather like this, but young people must be wondering what is going on.

Hours later, I clicked on Tomatoville and wow Bill. I hope that the people in the houses the trees fell on are all safe. I wish I was there to help you clean up.

Bill... I been wondering how you guys made out. Glad to know you ok and your friends and family are too. Wonder how our other AL TV folks made out. Think they said the winds which most were them straight line winds got up to 60-65mph. From the unreal noise, I think we had a tornado instead of just the straight line winds.

I barely manged to get my plants protected before it hit. Tornadoes to the right of me and this week damage a few miles away behind me.

Your so right it was so bad. Been awhile since I been that scared. I was ready to hit the big culvert out front.

I know it may be a while before your plants are growing again. I have plenty to spare and be glad to share them with you. If you want Pm me and I'll let ya know what ones I have. I'm not quite sure where you are, but could always meet ya someplace to give them to ya where they have coffee. Gotta have my coffee when I travel.

I'll be heading down Montgomery way in a couple days if you in that area and can give you them if you want. Just let me know. If you need anything else just holler.
