The Victory Garden is a must. How to Grow World Record Tomatoes is great fun!

This is regional - and yet covers each crop too - Steve Solomon's "Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades" totally took my understanding of gardening, both in general and here in the PNW, to a whole new level. A must have or "Bible" for those of us here in PNW.

Yes! I got the 4th edition back when I was in Oregon, incredibly useful. He's gone on to write other non-regional books which're also good, but I have a great sentimental attachment to Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades, and still dip into it from time to time.

Fine Gardening had a very good tomato issue last summer. I think the articles are all posted:

Steve Solomans "The Intelligent Gardener" on soil.

Also Brooklyn Botanic Gardens' "Tantalizing Tomatoes" is really good http://www.amazon.com/Tantalizing-To...atoes+brooklyn
