But you can turn them off if you please.
Which I have done in some cases.

It seams a little odd to put them on rosemary but even with there low need for water they still need water.
You can’t depend on rain here in Texas and last year I saw a lot of low water consumption plants die.

Well any way my brothers here and he almost died trying to help me dig holes for tomato plants, I don’t think he has use posthole diggers 50 years.

Hi, I just joined TVille yesterday and this is my first post. I'm the hoarder that FC was talking about . Yesterday, he referred me to this site . I did take a lot of FC's tomatoes, but they didn't go to waste, and I never claimed that I grew them. I like tomatoes a lot, but my wife really loves them more than anyone I've ever met! I used FC's Ts to make 2 big batches of hot sauce (one of which I brought to work for other employees). We gave a few of FC's Ts to my mom, and I gave FC full credit for them! My wife ate the rest, and it took a little more than 3 days. I think she could live off tomatoes alone!

Especially for her benefit, I'm trying my best to grow some, but our crop last year was not that plentiful. Hopefully this year will be better. I'm hoping we'll finally get enough produce to satisfy the other half, but if not, I sure hope FC decides to share his crop again! FC's tomatoes last year were truely the best I've ever tasted, and my wife agreed. Thanks, FC!!

Have you explained to your brother that in some parts of this world not plantin' heirloom tomato seeds given by a brother is grounds for disowning?

Seriously, I can't believe he did that. What I try to do is let people taste the tomatoes first. After that I've found they not only want the seed (or plants) but they treat them like gold.

Good luck with your brother even though I suspect he's a lost cause (no offense of course ).

The problem with giving away starters via a table and a sign that says free is the word FREE.

I set my 6 year old daughter outside with a table of tomato starters in cups with a sign that says FREE. A car stopped and some folks got out and took 8 plants. An elderly lady that was part of the group says to me. "Can you grow these indoors?"

I never asked but can you guess what happened to these starters? My guess is that they were planted a foot apart in a small garden that gets 4-5 hours of sun a day. Just a guess though.

The answer to this delemia is to start charging. If it were even 50 cents a plant it would deter folks from just talking as many as they could carry. An incremental cost deters the hoarding instinct.

I'm optimistic, hoping that our garden will do well so we'll have something to show/share/trade at SETTfest, but I've still got a lot to learn about growing 'maters. At the very least we'll have some loquat seedlings to offer.
