I grew Indigo Rose a few years ago, and I didn't like it. I thought it was tough skinned and sorta sour.

Have folks found any new blue ones they like this year?
We've got 4 blues planted out -- Indigo Cherry Drops, Indigo Gold Berries, Indigo Blue Berries, and Indigo Blue Beauty. The first 3 of these are cherry tomatoes, and Indigo Cherry Drops has been the only one I'd call "OK" for flavor -- pretty fruits, but not exciting flavor. Looking forward to Indigo Blue Beauty, ours isn't ripe yet, but it's encouraging that Hunt-Grow-Cook lists it as a fave. |

I grew Helsing ★★★★★★★★ Blues this year and wont be growing again. The taste was blah and they split worse than any variety I have ever grown, production was also bad for a cherry. I'd recommend skipping it.
I also grew Blue Berries and I don't like it either. It has a weird bitterness to it. Productive as heck for sure, no disease issues, a really beautiful fruit, and to be fair several people did like it but it was a nope for my family and I. I'm going to try Dances with Smurfs next year on Coles recommendation and I got IBB seeds from HGC so excited for those as well. I would add that the Bumblebee varieties are about as good as it gets when it comes to pretty cherry tomatoes IMO. No cracking, productive, and taste amazing. The Sunrise is my new favorite snacking tomato and I probably eat at least 10 a day. |

I have steered away from the new fad "blue" tomatoes after hearing oh so many stories re: how the skins were tough & the flavor insipid at best. It seems like a lot of folks jumped on the bandwagon because of the claims that they were "healthier".

I'm also dropping Helsing ★★★★★★★★ Blues. It did crack badly. I had better production and no cracking from Fahrenheit Blues.
Bosque Blue Bumblebee and Amethyst Cream are both blue-on-yellow fruit. They taste like sweet yellow tomatoes. The Bosque is more of a saladette. The Amethyst is nice, but the fruit are tiny by comparison. |

Ah yes. Nutritionism. Running from pigment to pigment and molecule to molecule.
Problem is -- if you push lycopene or anthocyanin (anti-oxidants to be sure) you reduce beta carotene and other important molecules (some without a peer-reviewed paper showing what they are good for). My solution: Eat lots of different colored tomatoes, to cover (color) all your bases. And eat blueberries. |
