I just shake or drum on the plants to self pollinate, tap the flower to collect pollen.
I tried the 'machine' approach with a little portable engraver from the dollar store, to vibrate the blossom as described by others... didn't seem to get more pollen than by hand, and just the inconvenience of carrying a tool around, not worth the bother.

I surely need one of these bullet vibrators on a stick. I can put on my tin foil hat and walk around town holding my buzzing vibrator on a stick in one hand while mumbling to myself and listening to a very large but portable radio perched on my shoulder so the speakers are very close to my ear. I guarantee there will be a crowd! On the other hand, folks might take one look at me and RUN!

I have a vegibee which has some advantages over the cheap electric toothbrush. The biggest advantage is selectable vibration speed which means you can tune it to the most effective speed. An electric toothbrush will still work, it is just slower and less effective at loosening pollen. Please note that most currently available electric toothbrushes use a rapidly rotating brush head. This is not effective. The old cheap electric toothbrushes that vibrate back and forth work.

Mine is several years old, and judging by the results, works just perfectly. It is good to be old-fashioned in some areas

I prefer adult toys. The speed is adjustable and already in the right range. I typically use them in early summer to pollinate the earliest flowers a bit better. I really aught to tape it to the end of a long stick so that I don't have to bend over.

In Texas the plants get so big we use one of these.
This is one being used on a smaller plant.
