Default Frost damage

I know I have read somewhere to just let the plants rid themselves of damaged leaves versus removing them yourself. Is their an advantage either way?

I prefer to leave damaged leaves on because they are still accomplishing at least some photosynthesis, and I figure the plant can shed them when it's ready to do so. In your case, I would definitely leave them on since you already have significant fruit set.

On the other hand, if the damage is due to disease, I prefer to remove the leaves to prevent/limit spreading.
