Potassium Bicarbonate
Supposedly kills molds/mildews in the garden. I am growing a ton of squash this year and plan to do preventative spraying every 7 days. Does anyone have experience with Potassium Bicarbonate? Does it work? If not what have you found to be successful at eliminating powdery/downey mildew? I prefer organic but If it is live or die I will use what I need to. Thanks for any help/info.

I have used potassium bicarbonate before. It works, just make sure you add a sticker like dish soap with it. If you go to dirtdoctor.com there is some info in the library about it. I have also used sodium bicarbonate the same way, but would rather use the potassium.

I'm going to try it also as soon as I can source it. A local wine supply not far away apparently has it. The recipe I found is 4 TBS. oil, 1 TBS baking soda or potassium Bicarbonate plus a spreader sticker to a gallon. We had, and are still having spring rain here in SoCal.......imagine that! And my tomatoes have various leaf disease. I expect mites, not this stuff! Have no experience so will appreciate any help.

I went and looked at my mix and it is 4 heaping teaspoon of K bicarbonate, and a teaspoon of dish soap.

Thanks Creister, In your experience will this work on black/grey mold as well? I ask because the dark tomatoes always get it so bad.

I mainly used it for black spot on my roses, I believe that it is a general fungicide, but not 100% sure. Another organic fungicide is garlic pepper tea, which also helps keep bad bugs away.

Even better, I've been reading about horsetail tea and it's miraculous results against PM.. Look into it.. Doesn't get any more organic than that my friend..
