Looks like anthracnose to me. I'm not sure if it affects figs, but that is a dead ringer for foliage lesions caused by it.

Volvo,
Did the spotting occur after a period of high rainfall or humidity? Here are some possibilities: http://www.doacs.state.fl.us/pi/enpp...circ/pp394.pdf http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...lnk&cd=1&gl=us My fig trees often come down w/ spots that look similar to what you show, usually during rainy weather. Eventually the leaf dies and falls off, or if the leaf looks really bad, I break it off, but the tree later comes back and produces a bunch of nice new healthy leaves and fruit, so it does not seem to be a major problem for me. I never got an official diagnosis, though. |

Seems to me that my fig had spots like that last year, but I didn't pay any attention to them, and the tree did just fine. As far as I can tell, anyway!

My fig tree leaves look like that every autumn.
Checked just now - and yes, the leaves are starting to look like this. No harm done. The tree is still producing figs like mad - just need a few more warm days for some more to ripen up nicely. (We have been eating a few a day for the last few weeks.) But it may be different in your climate, volvo. I don't know. At my place I wouldn't worry about these spots. |

I'd agree with Spatzbear - just getting to the end of the line for that leaf in that season. My fig leaves always get speckled before they fall; it's just that Volvo's do it in April and mine do it in October!

Volvo, how often and how much do/did you water the fig?
Even in the height of summer I only give the fig a deep watering (10 litres) once a week. Glad to hear you've already enjoyed the first fruit! Even though it's getting closer to winter here, the fig tree is still loaded with fruit which is only slowly ripening now. There's just not enough heat and warmth any more. Good thing I've planted an earlier fig, and there are more to be planted this winter. |
