As sad as it might be right now, at least you have a new garden awaiting you in France! What a great new adventure you are embarking on! The anticipation of first, seeing your new potential garden, and second, feeling and smelling the dirt as you dig in for the very first time. Hope it will be even more that what you expected!

Well Cip1953 you will have a place to stay if you make the trip over. A little town called Magland in the Haute Savoie region. Close to Switzerland, Italy and Germany. Open invitation. I am taking ALL my seeds! Sending them over a bit at a time. Thanks all. I knew you guys would get it!

I could not imanagine not having little tomatoe plants started in the spring. My heart goes out to you. Just visit the farmers market to see the heirlooms. That will help.

Age is beginning to curtail my gardening activities. I'm trying to withdraw gracefully by planting fewer plants each year. I've reached the point that air conditioned comfort seems more important in the middle of a hot summer than getting those ripe tomatoes and other crops harvested. It kills my soul to know ripe fruit is hanging on the tomato plants and pepper plants and cucumber vines, but it is simply to hot for me to be out there harvesting. I've grown a garden of some type since I was eight years old and I don't know if I can stop. My wife actually checks on me in the garden to make sure I'm okay and she tells me to not go outside because it is too hot.

I actually had the thought this year that there are high tunnels and chicken coops on wheels, why not an air-conditioned tent I can wheel around so I can garden inside it?

Don't astronaut suits have air-conditioning? I should just get one of those.
