I had the same experience when I grew Dr Carolyn Pink/Red one year. I'm thinking of growing it again next year as it really was SO good late in the season! Then again, maybe I should try some Galina's???

They develop an odd, 'chemical' taste if let get overripe (at least for me, on the balcony). I find the flavour itself is best when they are normal yellow and not slightly translucent. If you want sweetness from them, yeah, you need to overripe them. I find that if you put the overripe ones in the fridge before eating they are much better, that offtaste is mostly gone. I am talking about Galina btw.

And I always have,it's a variety that was brought back from Siberia by the man who went there who owned High Altitude Seeds. He brought back many others and Craig L and myself bought all he had and shared seeds.

Galina led to many other versions when I first grew it, saved seeds which gave me cherry sized ones that had fruits of salmon or red or pink, or ivory, And at the time Tad Smith had a similar problem with Galina. And asked me to send him what I thought was the best one,and that he named Dr.Carolyn, at SSE as such without telling me. And Dr.Carolyn then led to several other varieties,I won't name them all here.

What is Dr.Carolyn Pink/Red? I understand each one separately, but not like that.

The bit about red fruited plants that I got goes back to 2002 and since then I haven't seen anyone who got any red fruited plants,I have no idea if folks check epidermis colors since a really dark pink can look like a red to some folksl.

Carolyn, the seeds came from a swap labelled Dr. Carolyn Pink and it turned out that they were red fruited for both the donor and for me. They were very tasty late in the season!

Worth, from what I have read, Galina, Galina's and Galina's yellow are all the same thing .

Tania calls it Galina's Yellow but I remember it being introduced as just Galina or possibly Galina's.

In the 2016 SSE Yearbook Tania is the only one listing it and calls it...Galina's (no yellow included)

Glenn Drowns at Sandhill lists it as Galina's.

Variety names do get changed for one reason or another.

I remember being upset the first time I saw Eva's Purple Ball for that's not what Joe Bratka named it.

I remember seeing at a vendor page Belarusian Orange,which was really Orange-1 introduced by Andrey who is from Belarus.

Some change names to indicate something exclusive,Lisa at Amishland is one such person.

Another way varieties get mixed up is with trades and exchanges and swaps. For many years I did a Wrong variety thread at the original Garden Web, and it was interesting,yet sad, to see that folks submitted wrong seeds for a named variety and they then got spread around.
